Security Brands, Summit Controls, and American Access Systems
American Access Systems (AAS) began in 1979, when founder Don Allen invented a keypad-and-intercom system designed to provide a more convenient, reliable approach to controlled entry. Officially incorporated in 1984, AAS established a reputation for developing innovative access-control products. In 2012, Security Brands, Inc. (SBI) acquired AAS and retained its name as a premium brand within the company's growing product portfolio. SBI expanded its offerings by introducing Summit Access Control and Kodiak Black. Together, these brands enabled SBI to serve a broader range of access-control needs and provide customers with a more comprehensive selection of solutions.
SBI continued this legacy of innovation in 2014 by launching the Ascent X1 cellular access-control system and the Summit Control cloud-based management platform. These technologies modernized access management by letting properties use cellular connectivity and remotely manage supported systems through an online platform. SBI later expanded its portfolio with the smart keypads and card readers options for residential, commercial, and community applications. From a single keypad-and-intercom invention to its development of connected, cloud-based access solutions, the company's history reflects decades of continued success and innovation.
